Swiss-born photographer Irene Stehli spent thirty years documenting the life of Libuna, a member of the Prague Roma community, before the untimely death of the latter. A FAMU (Prague) graduate, the author has spent a long time in a Czech context. From the outset, her work had the structure of thematic photographic essays which describe people and their environment over long periods of time, quite like the corresponding type of film documentary. Libuna’s story will be accompanied by other selected cycles dealing with the “aesthetic” idiosyncrasies of shops, services and households of the previous regime.
