In his photographic work Pavel Štecha used his knowledge in the field of sociology, architecture, and urbanism. Štecha is known for his analytical approach to his subject matter, and for a style which guides the viewer to the purpose of each photograph. He was preoccupied not only with capturing events and the passage of time but also with guiding the viewer towards his or her own thoughts about our society. We believe that the questions asked by Pavel Štecha at the time the photographs were created are in many ways universal, and therefore still relevant. The About Us exhibition is a selection of photographs from Štecha’s own monograph U nás 1968–1990 (In Our Backyards 1968–1990), which was published by Jaroslav Bárta Press in 2001.
